The third National Anti-Bullying Week has been and gone with tremendous success in Leicestershire once again.
Once again, 'Big Dave' returned with his roadshow and visited three Leicestershire Schools where he single-handedly pulled a local authority yellow bus. He then gave a 30 minute talk to students about the importance of mental strength in overcoming bullying.
An 'ipower' conference was held on 20th and 21st November at Weston Super-Mare. Young people and adults from all over the country attended to take part in workshops and find out more about the latest anti-bullying initiatives. Students and staff from Redmoor High School and John Cleveland College went along from Leicestershire.
Lhamea is a young singer and writer who was bullied physically and verbally for three years in her first secondary school because of her musical talents. During Anti-Bullying Week she visited Guthlaxton College in Wigston, The Beauchamp College in Oadby, Brookvale High in Groby and Castle Rock High in Coalville.
The Anti-Bullying Team held a poster competition in schools across the county. The categories were Key stage 1, 2 and 3 and we received some wonderful entries. Judging was difficult but in the end there were 8 prize winners who were awarded their prizes and certificates by Ivan Ould (Lead Council Member) and Gareth Williams (Director for Children and Young People's Services) at a ceremony at County Hall.

This year, the Anti-Bullying Alliance created a disc with information, ideas and resources for Anti-Bullying Week. however, these resources are also useful outside of Anti-Bullying Week, for example, if your school is planning an anti-bullying assembly. The contents of this disc can be downloaded from the Usefull Resources Section.
If you have any ideas for events next year, please contact us. We are hoping to hold two student conferences (Primary and Secondary) on cyber bullying.
