Anti-Bullying Week 2015 will be from the 16th - 20th November.

The strap line is 'Make a Noise about Bullying' with the #AntiBullyingWeek.

The key aims of the week are:

  • To empower children and young people to make a noise about bullying – whether it is happening to them or to someone else, face to face or online;
  • To help parents and carers have conversations with their children about bullying – both as a way of preventing bullying, and to help children who are worried about bullying;
  • To encourage 'talking schools' where all children and young people are given a safe space to discuss bullying and other issues that affect their lives, and are supported to report all forms of bullying;
  • To equip teachers to respond effectively when children tell them they're being bullied;
  • To raise awareness of the impact of bullying on children's lives if they don't tell anyone it's happening – or if they are not given appropriate support – particularly the impact on mental health.

Anti-Bullying Surveys

For the third year running, our Leicestershire anti-bullying surveys are LIVE until 4th December 2015.

The surveys are for LEICESTERSHIRE schools, years 4 (primary) and year 8 (secondary) so please only use with these age groups so that the results are as reliable as possible. We aim to get all participating school's results back to you soon after Christmas. If your school took part in the surveys over the past 2 years, you will be able to look for changes/trends in your results.

Anti-Bullying Week assemblies

Once again, Leicestershire Anti-Bullying Team have created two assemblies around this year's national theme of 'Make a Noise about bullying', with presenter notes attached. The assemblies reflect one of our priority areas - preventing and tackling homophobic, bipohobic and transphobic bullying.

Please feel free to download and use them in your school. The only thing we ask of you is to let us know if you use them and how your assembly went. Please email caroline.harbison@leics.gov.uk

The secondary assembly requires internet access to play the short video (You Tube link).

Stonewall's 'No Bystanders' campaign

Stonewall are asking Education Champions across the country to get behind their No Bystanders campaign once again. They want to hear how Leicestershire schools can 'Be Brave, Be Kind and Be Heard' to combat bullying and unkind language, and inspire others to do so too. They are also asking schools to mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance which falls during the week on 20 November.

Hollis Brown - '3 Shots'

The New York based band, Hollis Brown, have been in touch with us to let us know about a song they wrote to raise awareness of bullying.

Hollis Brown gathered hundreds of submissions that were sent to them from pre-school to middle school students who depicted their definition of bullying through drawings and paintings.

The band compiled some of the best ones and created a montage of visuals which makes up the following piece.

We hope you will find the song and video inspiring. Maybe your school could have a go at making your own video to go with the song and send them into us.
